Poisoner is a murder mystery novel. Buddy accepts a job as food taster in a country Southern mansion where the three males of the Harlson family have been poisoned to death. He has no choice, being unemployed, but when the cook dies of arsenic poisoning, and a handyman named Necktwister runs off with a garbage bag full of cash, Buddy figures he’s next. One of the four Harlson women still alive loves him. She tells the sheriff she poisoned the cook, but Buddy figures it is just to get out of that death house. The mother and one of the two remaining daughters in the mansion offer him money for sex. The other Harlson daughter is found in the family cemetery with no head. Buddy locks his basement door, but hears the sounds of movement. The poisoner is at large. The poisoner has to be the mother or the daughter.
